Reading and Language Arts

Paul P. Gates, M.D. School Where we reach for the stars Gates’ language arts curriculum is a multifaceted one. In kindergarten, the use of Reading with Telian-Cas Learning Concepts develops phonemic awareness, decoding (reading), and encoding (spelling). Grades one and two use the Bradley Reading and Language Arts Program to introduce a variety of language arts skills. The Houghton Mifflin (grades one and two) and Scott Foresman (grades three through six) anthologies are utilized as one of many reading resources. A wide range of trade books provide opportunities for skill reinforcement. Empowering Writers and the Six Traits model are applied in teaching writing skills.
